Floyd Zaiger (born 1926) is a biologist who is most noted for his work in fruit genetics, and founded Zaiger's Genetics.[1] He was born in Nebraska and grew up in Iowa. Zaiger has developed both cultivars of existing species and new hybrids such as the pluot and the aprium.[2] He uses cross-pollination, rather than gene-splicing or DNA manipulation, to develop new hybrids.[3]
Zaiger figures prominently in the mental life of artisanal marijuana breeder Miro Basinas, hero of Mark Haskell Smith's novel Baked[4]
